The flats have bathrooms designed thirty years ago, and the first thing we do on a fall recovery case is walk the house and say plainly which surfaces are the problem. Day to day, that placement is not dramatic. Someone is there when the patient stands up. Medication is given on time and written down. There is a short walk in the morning and another in the evening. The bathroom is supervised, every time, because that is where the second fall happens. Physiotherapy is booked as a separate visit rather than folded into the attendant's day, since a physiotherapist and an attendant are different people with different training. Every caregiver carries police verification and an identity card, and the family sees the photograph, the years worked and the languages spoken before the person travels. Families abroad get the same record by message, so the approval does not wait for morning in India. If a caregiver does not suit the household, we replace them. For an overseas family we do that on a call rather than making an elderly parent explain what went wrong. Price here follows condition and hours. A qualified nurse costs more than a trained attendant, and a Fortis surgical discharge usually needs the nurse. A twenty four hour live in costs more than a twelve hour shift. Dementia cases that need two people for transfers are priced as two people, and we say so before starting rather than after. A trial day is available before a long placement, which is the sensible first step when the decision is being made from another time zone. Caregivers for Phase 4 come from Chakkarpur, Sikanderpur and Nathupur. They work in Hindi and English, and Bengali, Nepali and Malayalam speakers are on this roster. Sikanderpur, Belvedere Towers and Phase 2 Rapid Metro are the nearest stations. That matters here more than in most areas, because when a son flies in for a fortnight he usually arrives without a car. Payment from abroad is a routine question here, so it is worth answering directly. The account and the invoice sit in India, the family member paying can be anywhere, and the monthly statement itemises the shifts rather than showing a single figure. We also fix who the point of contact is before a placement starts. One family member approves changes and one receives the daily report. When four siblings in four countries all instruct a caregiver separately, the patient is the person who suffers for it. Not every address in Sectors 27 and 28 is named above.
