Palam Vihar has two hospitals inside it. Columbia Asia and Manipal are both in the locality, which means a discharge here can be handed over in person rather than read off a photograph an hour later.

That is the practical advantage of this address and it is worth using. When a family tells us the discharge time in advance, the caregiver can be at the flat before the patient is, with the medication schedule already written out.

The colony is lettered A to H, with Ashiana Apartments, Rosewood City, Sun City Apartments and Suncity Heights inside the same road network. Block letters and house numbers repeat across the blocks, so we confirm both, plus the nearest market, before anyone is dispatched.

There is no metro station serving Palam Vihar. Bajghera Road, the main market and Ansal Plaza are the reference points, and they are what a driver will actually recognise.

Our caregivers come from Carterpuri, Palam Vihar Extension and Dundahera. Carterpuri is the village the colony grew around, so the team is already inside the road network rather than coming in off the expressway with the rest of the morning traffic.

Elderly attendant work is the largest category here, then dementia care, then post operative care, then physiotherapy.

Max in Sector 19 is where the heavier surgical cases go. For most other things, the two hospitals inside the colony are enough, and we would rather a family used them than travelled across Gurgaon out of habit.

On a post operative discharge we ask for the summary before quoting. Whether there is a drain, a catheter, a wound needing dressing on a schedule, or a mobility restriction decides whether this is a qualified nurse or a trained attendant.

Those are different people at different rates and guessing helps nobody.

Dementia placements run on sameness. The same caregiver every day, the same order of tasks, the same times. We do not rotate staff through a dementia household to cover a roster gap, because a new face in the room can undo weeks of settling.

Day to day, an attendant placement here is medication given on time and written down, bathing supervised every time, meals prepared, a walk in the morning and another in the evening if the patient is steady, and a log the family reads at night.

Palam Vihar is a walking colony in a way the newer sectors are not. The market, the park and the temple are all reachable on foot, and for an elderly patient who is mobile that daily walk is a large part of what keeps them mobile.

We treat it as part of the work rather than an extra.

Every caregiver entering a Palam Vihar block carries police verification, an identity card, and a written record of experience and languages. The family approves the person before they travel.

There is no colony wide gate clearance to file. Entry runs at the block or the house, so a placement can usually begin without waiting on a committee.

If the caregiver is not right, we replace them. That is a change of person, not a renegotiation of the placement.

Price follows condition and hours rather than the block letter. A qualified nurse costs more than a trained attendant, and a Columbia Asia surgical discharge usually needs the nurse.

Twenty four hour live in costs more than a twelve hour shift, and many Palam Vihar households start on the shorter one. Catheter care, oxygen, suction or tube feeding move a case from attendant to nurse.

Night only cover is quoted separately. Physiotherapy is charged per visit.

A trial day is available before a long placement, which most Palam Vihar families take.

Our caregivers here work in Hindi and Punjabi, with Bengali and Bhojpuri on the roster. Punjabi is heavily used across the older blocks, and for a dementia patient who has reverted to a first language it decides whether they can be reassured at all.

The blocks and societies named above are not the whole colony. Palam Vihar also holds independent houses and smaller blocks, and Rosewood City extends past the main gate. We cover those on the same terms, so ask if yours is not listed.

Palam Vihar sits on the Gurgaon and Delhi boundary, and a number of families here use hospitals on the Delhi side out of long habit. If that is you, tell us which one, because the discharge handover works the same way and it changes only where the caregiver meets you.

The blocks nearest Bajghera Road are quieter than those towards the main market, which matters mainly for a patient who is sleeping badly during a recovery.

To start, send the block letter and house number with the nearest market, what the doctor has asked for, and the hours you need. If the discharge is today, say the time. We reply with who is free and what it costs, or we tell you plainly that we cannot cover it.
